The pull-chain completely ripped out from my ceiling fan. How do I fix it? Do I have to take the whole thing down from the ceiling & take it all apart?

My answer is yes. If you’re anywhere near handy with tools, then this won’t be too hard a project. You need to replace the switch itself more than likely. If you’re not much of a fix-it guy, then ask a buddy. But really, it’ll take only half hour or so, unless your fan is on a 18′ high ceiling like mine. You won’t have to rip the whole fan down, hopefully. Most thrift stores should have the chain, WalMart and Home Depot will have both chain and the switch.
Take the whole thing down from the ceiling & take it all apart.
get a new fan homie
The chain is connected to a switch. in order to fix it, you would have to open the switch and fix the problem, or fix a new switch
The same thing happened to me. You have to replace the pull chain switch. You really have to take about 1/2 of it down to get to it. It’s not really that bad- I’m a woman and I did it myself with no clue. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and tell them what kind of fan it is + they’ll give you the right switch and the instructions will be in it.
SHUT OFF THE POWER TO THE FAN THEN:
Yes you will have to take it apart but you may not have to take it down.
They do have replacement switches at your local lumber and hardware company.
They are really pretty much standard 3 speed switches
You should be able to fix just the switch unless you are uncomfortable standing on a ladder that long. At least you won’t have to balance the blades next time. When you are at the hardware store, get a longer pull-chain so you won’t snap it off next time.
if you have any of the chain still visable just add more chain. if the links are broken into the body of the fan and you are not a "handy"type person do not try to fix it your self. electricity is nothing to fool with. if you are "handy" you have to turn off the power , take apart the fan body and replace the chain inside the body of the fan. the chain snaps into a catch inside like a pull chain light. don’t try this if you havent done this kind of thing before.
